Preserving the Past, Powering the Future
The Defense Threat Reduction Information Analysis Center (DTRIAC) is the Department of Defense’s premier repository for scientific and technical information on nuclear data. Under Task Order 8, our team ensures this vital knowledge base evolves to meet the needs of today’s mission while laying the foundation for tomorrow’s.

Our mission centers on providing and sustaining the IT platforms that enable large-scale digitization. These closed-network systems — fully STIG-hardened and DoD-authorized — support the ingestion of legacy records (from paper files and photographs to CDs, DVDs, floppy disks, and even 8-track tapes) and prepare them for use with advanced AI/ML tools that enable faster search, curation, and correlation across disparate datasets.

The systems we design, develop, and maintain not only ensure compliance and cybersecurity, but also deliver stability, scalability, and accessibility for DTRIAC researchers and end users. In parallel, our DevSecOps pipelines — built from the ground up within a unified GitLab ecosystem — streamline development and operations, setting a blueprint for enterprise scalability across DTRA.

Key Accomplishments

  • Mission-Ready Platforms: Designed, deployed, and sustained closed-network systems — fully STIG-hardened and DoD-authorized — that provide the secure foundation for digitizing over 450,000 documents and 50,000 photographs, as well as rare media such as 3.5”/5.25” floppy disks and 8-track tapes.
  • AI/ML Enablement: Delivered environments capable of hosting and processing digitized content, enabling the deployment of AI/ML applications for faster search, curation, and analysis of mission-critical nuclear data.
  • Cybersecurity Assurance: Implemented targeted sanitization processes on classified systems, ensuring compliance while protecting sensitive data throughout the digitization workflow.
  • Efficient DevSecOps Practices: Built and now maintain ~24 CI/CD pipelines within GitLab — replacing sprawling, multi-toolchains with a single cohesive environment that enhances reliability and maintainability.
  • Blueprint for the Future: Engineered systems and practices with enterprise scalability in mind, positioning DTRA for adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and expanded AI/ML capabilities.

This initiative exemplifies TekSynap’s ability to combine innovation, security, and efficiency to preserve the past and power the future. By delivering the platforms that enable large-scale digitization and AI/ML integration, TO 8 ensures DTRIAC’s nuclear data remains accessible, reliable, and ready for tomorrow’s challenges.

Delivering Robust Telecommunications Mobility and Diversity in Secure Workspaces
The modern defense workforce operates in a highly mobile paradigm. Mission often dictates relocation to secure collaboration locations demanding continuous and seamless communication capabilities.

Our team engineered an unclassified wireless system specifically designed to meet rigorous DoD security requirements to operate within collateral classified locations. This provides government team members the ability to operate freely within wired and wireless scenarios to collaborate both decentralized and in collocated workspaces with uninterrupted high-speed access to the unclassified network with the confidence that robust protective technologies are securing all wireless transmissions.

Wireless intrusion detection systems integrate with our 24/7/365 Network Operations and Security Center and Cybersecurity Service Support teams for continuous monitoring, detection, and response capabilities. Our security system detects and locates unauthorized access points through automated scans of the radio frequency environment as well as scans on the wired network for rogue devices. The system alerts teams of unauthorized activities and performs automated network security containment in response to the categorized threat.

Providing secure and reliable connectivity with continuous mobile communications throughout campus facilities is a force multiplier for the government workforce. Hundreds of access points were installed with a minimum 20% overlap in footprint with signal-to-noise ratio above 25dBm. Successful campus level deployment at our customer’s headquarters campus location provided the impetus for expansion to other major sites across the continental United States.

Key accomplishments:

  • Innovative Equipment Integration: Combined enterprise-grade mesh wireless networking equipment with high-speed wired campus infrastructure technologies, enabling robust wireless connectivity anywhere on campus within scope.
  • Mission-Focused Impact: Helped mobile teams stay connected within classified collateral and unclassified campus locations for dynamic collaboration scenarios, supporting real-time decision-making and operational coordination.
  • Robust Security Engineering and Support: Implemented advanced rogue access intrusion detection capabilities for automated threat containment and integrated alerts to 24/7/365 NOSC and CSSP monitoring and response teams.
  • Scalability for the Enterprise: Designed for easy expansion to alternate headquarters campus as well as remote support offices while enabling centralized management and real-time security visibility.

This initiative exemplifies our commitment to solving real-world challenges with adaptable, secure, and forward-thinking IT infrastructure, helping our partners maximize secure mobile communications.

Global Mission Information Technology support for WMD National Security Systems
In support of Global Weapon of Mass Destruction Threat Reduction, the Mission IT Support Team of 110 Information Technology professionals assured the highest levels of network and data availability, system security and information assurance to both the 5,200 military, government and contractor personnel assigned to the agency and affiliated Combatant Commands.

Key accomplishments:

  • Mission-Focused Impact: From the TO12 Base Year to Option Year 1, the Mission IT Team reduced average monthly Critical Impact Outage Hours from 1.71 to .79 hours, a 53% reduction. Additionally, average monthly Total Degradation hours were reduced from 260.6 to 60.16 hours, a 75% reduction.  This enabled Unclassified and Secret Network Operational availability (Ao) of 99.64% and 99.61% respectively.
  • Proactive Project Management: In addition to demanding operational requirements, the Mission IT Team closed 22 high priority Agency projects in OY1 focused on life cycle replacements, enhanced security posture and fully supporting the Return to Office of Agency staff.
